Disclosed is a gene transfer agent having further improved gene transfer efficiency and a method for producing the same. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] A gene transfer agent comprising a cross-linked product in which star-shaped branched polymers having a plurality of cationic branched chains radially extended from an aromatic ring as a core are cross-linked. This gene transfer agent is a star-shaped branched polymer in which a compound having three or more N, N-dialkyl-dithiocarbamylmethyl molecular groups in the same molecule is used as an iniferter, and a vinyl monomer is light-irradiated by living polymerization. Are cross-linked. A method for producing a gene introduction agent for crosslinking a branched polymer by irradiating light with the branched polymer in a solid state immersed in a liquid ether.
