abstract | [PROBLEMS] To improve bleeding, which is a major problem when printing on plain paper by an ink jet recording method, to enable good image formation that achieves both fixability and color development without causing back-through. A reaction liquid for ink jet recording which can be continuously discharged for a long period of time even by energy discharge, a recording method using the same, and an ink set comprising the reaction liquid and pigment ink. A reaction liquid for ink jet recording which is used together with a pigment ink and reacts when contacted with the pigment ink, comprising: (a) a polyvalent metal salt; (b) a chelating agent; and (c) a liquid medium. And a reaction composition for ink jet recording having a liquid composition such that a condition generation constant by a combination of a polyvalent metal and a chelating agent is 2.5 or less, an ink jet recording method using the same, and An ink set comprising the reaction liquid and pigment ink.
