A battery capable of improving cycle characteristics while reducing weight even when an outer can is used as a negative electrode is provided. A battery element having a laminated structure of a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a separator is housed in an outer can. The outer can 11 is made of a metal material containing aluminum, and a reaction suppression layer 31 made of copper or nickel is provided on the inner surface thereof. The reaction suppressing layer 31 suppresses an alloying reaction between lithium contained in the electrolyte held in the separator 23 and aluminum contained in the outer can 11. Further, since the inner surface of the outer can 11 is opposed to the positive electrode current collector 21A located at the end portion on the winding outer periphery side of the battery element 20 via the reaction suppression layer 31 and the separator 23, at the time of abnormality such as breakage Excessive heat generation is suppressed.
