To provide an ink jet recording sheet having excellent image quality regardless of whether dye ink or pigment ink is used and having high viscosity stability of a coating liquid at the time of coating and stable coating properties. An ink receiving layer containing a pigment and a water-soluble binder is provided on at least one surface of a support, and the ink receiving layer has a branching of 0.1 to 10 parts by mass with respect to 100 parts by mass of the pigment.
