The present invention provides a catalytic reduction method and a coupling method that can be advantageously used when synthesizing an organic compound, which have a low environmental load. A substrate and a heterogeneous platinum group catalyst are mixed and stirred in a hydrogen gas atmosphere in which a liquid as a solvent does not exist. Alternatively, an organic boron compound, an organic halide or an equivalent thereof, a base, and a heterogeneous platinum group catalyst are mixed and stirred in the absence of a liquid as a solvent.
