abstract | An antitumor agent having an excellent antitumor effect and high safety is provided. An antitumor agent comprising an acidic xylo-oligosaccharide having a uronic acid residue in a xylo-oligosaccharide molecule and a bamboo shimeji mushroom extract as active ingredients, wherein the acidic xylo-oligosaccharide has a different degree of polymerization of xylose. It is a mixed composition of oligosaccharides, and preferably has an average degree of polymerization of 2.0 to 15.0, and the acidic xylo-oligosaccharide is obtained by treating a lignocellulosic material enzymatically and / or physicochemically. A complex of a sugar component and a lignin component is obtained, and then the complex is subjected to an acid hydrolysis treatment to obtain a xylooligosaccharide mixture. From the resulting xylooligosaccharide mixture, at least one uronic acid residue is located in one molecule. "A product obtained by separating xylooligosaccharides as a chain" is preferred.
