abstract | The present invention relates to a retardation film that does not use an alignment layer, which has excellent adhesion between a substrate and a retardation layer, and excellent temporal stability of optical properties even in a high-temperature and high-humidity atmosphere. The main object is to provide a retardation film. The present invention comprises a base material comprising a cycloolefin resin and having at least an optically negative C-plate property, and a retardation layer formed directly on the base material and containing a rod-like compound. And nx ≧ ny> nz between nx, ny and nz, where nx, ny is the refractive index in any X, Y direction perpendicular to each other in the in-plane direction, and nz is the refractive index in the thickness direction. The above-mentioned problem is solved by providing a retardation film in which the above relationship is satisfied, wherein the retardation layer contains a polymer of urethane acrylate.
