abstract The present invention relates to 8-nitro-2- (1H-tetrazole-5) from 8-nitro-2-cyano-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one using sodium azide together with zinc halide in water. -Yl) relates to an improved process for the conversion to 4H-1-benzopyran-4-one. 8-Nitro-2- (1H-tetrazol-5-yl) -4H-1-benzopyran-4-one is obtained by using stannous chloride in an aqueous hydrochloric acid solution. Further conversion to-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl) -4H-1-benzopyran-4-one hydrochloride.
