A method (200) and system for using segmentation techniques and three-dimensional image processing techniques to detect coronary artery calcification (702) deposition and create an automated method for identifying its location with respect to the main artery. (100) is provided. Different scoring algorithms may be applied to generate calcium scores such as Agatsuton Janowitz (704), Mass (708), and Volume (706). A total score and a more detailed score are generated based on the main artery, such as the right coronary artery, the left anterior descending artery, or the left circumflex artery, to be incorporated into the patient report (712).
