abstract An object of the present invention is to provide an endoplasmic reticulum protein characterized by having disulfide bond reduction activity. Another object of the present invention is to provide a method for degrading and / or removing misfolded proteins in cells using the protein. In order to solve the above problems, the present inventors have succeeded in purifying an ERdj5 protein having disulfide activity and succeeded in showing reduction activity. In addition, by directly expressing this gene in cells, it was possible to directly show the activity of promoting the degradation of misfolded proteins. That is, the present inventors have clarified that the known endoplasmic reticulum protein ERdj5 has a reducing power and promotes the degradation of misfolded proteins in the cell, unlike the previously reported results.
