abstract An object of the present invention is to reduce the amount of iris image data without losing the shade characteristics of the iris region. Image data IRIS of an iris part to be authenticated is extracted from input image data IN in which the luminance of each pixel is represented by 8 bits by an iris region extracting unit. The average luminance value AVE of the image data IRIS is calculated by the average luminance value calculation unit 5 and supplied to the compression conversion unit 6. The compression conversion unit 6 causes each pixel of the input image data IN to have an average value of the luminance of the image data IRIS in the iris region of 64 and a relative luminance difference within the iris region. Pixel brightness is adjusted. As a result, the luminance value adjusted by the compression conversion unit 6 has the most significant bit of 0, and the number of effective bits of each image data is 7 bits, which is reduced by 1 bit. Then, the output image data OUT in which the luminance of each pixel is expressed by 7 bits is output from the data output unit 7. [Selection] Figure 1
