titleOfInvention Liquid crystal hologram element
abstract A polarization-selective liquid crystal hologram element having high efficiency and low cost is provided. A periodic structure including a region exhibiting optical anisotropy and a region exhibiting optical isotropy, wherein the periodic structure includes a non-polymerizable liquid crystal, a polymerizable monomer or a prepolymer, and light. A composition composed of a polymerization initiator is held between a pair of transparent substrates, and the composition is exposed to multiple light interference exposure of two or more light beams, whereby a layer composed mainly of a polymer and a layer composed mainly of a non-polymerizable liquid crystal. In a polymer-dispersed liquid crystal hologram element in which a periodic phase separation structure is formed, the normal refractive index of the non-polymerizable liquid crystal of the composition is no, and the refractive index of the polymerizable monomer or prepolymer is np. The following formula (1), | Np-no |> 0.006 (1) A liquid crystal hologram element characterized in that the periodic structure is formed using the composition satisfying the above relationship, and a polarization component substantially perpendicular to the arrangement direction of the periodic structure is diffracted.
