abstract An apparatus for increasing the efficiency of each stage of a PV inverter is provided. A system (10) includes an energy source (12) configured to operate as a current limiting source and a DC-DC converter (14) or current switch type configured to receive current from the energy source. An inverter (30) is included and an always-on switch (15) is provided. In other embodiments, the power converter system is configured to convert a current source DC-DC converter including an always-on switch configured to provide a regulated DC voltage and the regulated DC voltage into an AC current.
