abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an ether carboxylate in which a desired ether carboxylate can be obtained in a high yield, the amount of an expensive catalyst used can be reduced, and the recovery thereof is easy. The method for producing an ether carboxylate is selected from a hydroxyl group-containing organic compound, a carboxyl group-containing unsaturated organic compound, and a carboxyl group-containing epoxy compound in an aqueous medium in the presence of a catalyst containing a rare earth element. In the method for producing an ether carboxylate comprising an etherification step of reacting with at least one carboxyl group-containing organic compound, the pH of the aqueous medium is more than 9 and 13 or less, and the amount of the catalyst used is the carboxyl It is 0.0001-0.4 mol with respect to 1 mol of group-containing organic compounds.
