The present invention provides a biodegradable polymer having flexibility that can be adapted to living soft tissue, and a method for producing the same, by improving the hard and brittle nature that is a problem of polylactic acid. The present invention also provides a medical material such as a tissue regeneration scaffold material for soft tissue using the biodegradable polymer. A flexible biodegradable polymer comprising a biodegradable copolymer containing a hydroxy acid unit and an aspartic acid unit as a main chain, and a side chain containing a mesogenic group in the main chain, and a method for producing the same .
