abstract | Provided are a writing device and a writing method capable of suppressing the number of light source types used in writing to a display medium. The number of types of light sources included in the display medium is less than the number of the plurality of photoconductive layers having different light absorption wavelength regions, and each type of light source includes a plurality of lights included in the display medium. Light in a wavelength region including a light absorption wavelength region of at least one photoconductive layer in the conductive layer is emitted, and at least one light source emits light in a wavelength region including a light absorption wavelength region of a plurality of photoconductive layers. The light irradiation unit 34 having a configuration including the emitted light source irradiates the display medium 11 with light in a wavelength region including the absorption wavelength regions of all the photoconductive layers included in the display medium 11.
