The present invention provides a composite material with improved utilization efficiency of carbon particles and the like, and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: A composite material in which carbon nanostructures are held in pores of a polymer airgel, or an aromatic small molecule having two or more functional groups can react with a functional device of the aromatic small molecule. A polymer airgel having a plurality of pores formed by reacting with a crosslinkable small molecule having a crosslinkable functional group, and producing a composite material that holds the carbon nanostructure in the pores of the polymer airgel.
