The present invention provides a method by which an optically active (S) -7-hydroxy-6-methylheptan-2-one and a precursor thereof can be easily and efficiently industrially produced. Formula (II): (Wherein R 1 is a C 1-5 alkyl group) An optical resolution is carried out on the 2-methyl-6-oxoheptanoic acid ester represented by the formula (III) by acting an esterase derived from a microorganism of the genus Aspergillus that can preferentially hydrolyze the R-form. : (Wherein R 1 is as defined above) A method for producing an optically active (S) -2-methyl-6-oxoheptanoic acid ester represented by the formula: [Selection figure] None |
