A novel microorganism is provided. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] A novel microorganism according to the present invention is a microorganism identified by a receipt number NITE ABP-252 belonging to the family Methanococcalae (Methanococceae). In the present invention, the above microorganism is brought into contact with iron or an iron-containing alloy or is present in water having iron or an iron-containing alloy to corrode the iron or the iron-containing alloy, and then the amount of corrosion is determined. The present invention also relates to a method for evaluating corrosion resistance due to microbial corrosion, characterized by measuring and evaluating the corrosion resistance of the iron or an alloy containing iron against the microorganism.
