abstract Provided are a novel platinum complex having a short-wavelength light-emitting property useful for a material for a light-emitting element, and a light-emitting element using the complex. [Solution] The following general formula (1) [Chemical 1] (In the formula, ring B represents a nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocycle, ring A, ring C and ring D represent an aromatic ring or a nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocycle, and either ring C or ring D is a 5-membered member. And the other is a 5-membered ring or a 6-membered ring, and R A , R B , R C and R D represent substituents on Ring A, Ring B, Ring C and Ring D. X A , X B 2 , X C, and X D represent a nitrogen atom in which two of them can be coordinated to a platinum atom, and the remaining two are carbon atoms that can be covalently bonded to the platinum atom or nitrogen that can be covalently bonded to the platinum atom Q represents a divalent atom or a divalent atomic group that bridges ring B and ring C. Y C and Y D represent a carbon atom or a nitrogen atom.) A platinum complex useful as a phosphorescent material, and a light emitting device containing at least one platinum complex.
