abstract The present invention relates to a chemical substance modifier for modifying physical properties of a compound having a linear alkyl chain or a composition containing the same, a modified compound and a modified composition using the chemical substance modifier. And a modified compound and a modified composition obtained by the method for producing the modified composition are provided. The present invention provides novel dicarboxylic acid diester compounds. The following general formula (1) R 1 - (CH 2) i -O - [(CH 2) j -O] k - (CH 2) l -R 2 (1) (In general formula (1), R 1 and R 2 each independently represent a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group, a mercapto group, a halogen atom, an acryloyloxy group, a carboxyl group, an amino group, a cyano group, or a vinyl group, i and l are each independently an integer of 2 to 20, j is an integer of 2 to 12, k is an integer of 0 to 7, and i, j, k, and l are constant.
