titleOfInvention Expandable stent and method for providing the stent
abstract An expandable stent comprising an end portion of a base portion, an end portion of a distal portion, and a tubular wall provided between the end portions of the base portion and the end portion of the distal end portion. The tubular wall is defined by a plurality of cross members comprising a longitudinal axis and a series of longitudinal struts provided substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the stent. And a porous surface. Each of the longitudinal struts is provided with bending means for extending and compressing the pair of longitudinal struts facing each other in a diametrical direction substantially complementing each other when the stent is bent. . When a radial outward force is applied to the stent, the stent can expand from a first contracted position to a second expanded position. By providing such a deflection means in a series of longitudinal struts, a very desirable balance is obtained between the lateral flexibility of the unexpanded stent and the radial stiffness of the expanded stent. .
