A method of correlating a patient's cardiovascular and sleep-disordered breathing states. The patient's heart rate and / or detailed echocardiographic data is monitored and recorded continuously or periodically on a similar time scale with sleep breathing disorder information. Thereafter, changes in the patient's heart rate associated with changes in sleep-disordered breathing are observed. More specifically, a therapeutic level of positive airway pressure for the treatment of sleep breathing disorders is applied while events associated with the treatment of the patient's sleep breathing disorder are detected and recorded. At the same time, information about the patient's cardiovascular condition is stored and the stored information related to the patient's cardiovascular condition and the recorded events associated with the treatment of the patient's sleep breathing disorder are correlated.
