abstract |
An improved method for producing surface-crosslinked superabsorbent polymer particles is disclosed. The superabsorbent polymer particles are surface crosslinked using about 20 to about 35% by weight of 1,3-propanediol as a cosolvent in the surface crosslinking step. The use of 1,3-propanediol as a co-solvent reduces the amount of surface cross-linking agent required to fully surface cross-link the superabsorbent polymer, and aids prior to use in the surface cross-linking process. Reduce or eliminate process equipment fouling attributed to solvent. |
