Dry powder formulation for pre-weighed DPI |
abstract |
A dry powder drug formulation is disclosed. Further disclosed is a method of forming a metered dose of a formulation intended for insertion into a dry powder inhaler and loading it into a dose container. The dose is configured to be delivered to the user by inhalation, thereby obtaining a high dose of fine particles to be delivered. The formulation is characterized by its metered dose having at least one filler material that holds together the particles bound to a macrostructure of predefined dimensions and exhibiting the intended mechanical strength. As applied, it is adapted to a dose forming process that can be based on volumetric filling of powder particles, or electrodynamic accumulation. The pharmacologically active ingredient exhibits a particle mass of at least 50% in a typical aerodynamic diameter range of 1 to 5 μm. Furthermore, the dose thus formed is then loaded into a high barrier container. |
