abstract The waste treatment apparatus (5) includes a container (20) and an AC plasma torch (35A, 35B) installed in the container and having a variable flame. The flame produced by the torch can be adjusted depending on the characteristics of the waste to be treated. Waste can be introduced into the container and heated by the energy from the flame. This energy can melt or vitrify the inorganic portion of the waste and gasify and separate the organic portion of the waste. This separation can destroy harmful or toxic components of the waste.
