abstract |
Systems and methods are provided for assessing the degree of systemic perfusion in a patient. The system includes a surface perfusion pressure monitor and a blood pressure monitor. The surface perfusion pressure monitor may include a Doppler sensor or a photoelectric pulse wave. A surface perfusion index, or alternatively, an optical plethysmographic index, is derived from surface perfusion pressure measurements and blood pressure measurements to allow assessment of systemic perfusion failure. In an alternative embodiment, a blood flow sensor can be added to the system to place the tongue adjacent to the mucosal surface accessible by the mouth or nose connected to the patient's gastrointestinal tract or upper / upper gastrointestinal tract. Lower gland PCO 2 and SaO 2 are measured. The pH sensor can be used in combination with blood flow determination. [Selection] Figure 9 |
