Use of an Mre11 regulator, a tankyrase regulator, a DNA damage pathway regulator and an MRN complex formation regulator to protect a mammal from failure of growth arrest, failure of apoptosis or failure of proliferative aging. Methods for screening for modulators of Mre11 are disclosed in this application. The method comprises (a) contacting a candidate modulator with Mre11 in vitro in the presence of a nucleic acid substrate for Mre11; and (b) measuring hydrolysis of the substrate, thereby comparing it to a control. Identifying a modulator by altering the hydrolysis of the substrate. |
