abstract | The present invention provides methods and compositions for producing recombinant plasminogen, microplasminogen, and fragments thereof in a duckweed expression system. It is a novel discovery of the present invention that duckweed expression systems can be used to produce high levels of plasminogen and microplasminogen. A plasminogen and microplasminogen produced in duckweed can be activated to produce a polypeptide having protease activity. Accordingly, the present invention relates to an expression cassette for expressing plasminogen, microplasminogen, and a fragment thereof, and a duckweed and a duckweed plant transformed with a nucleic acid containing a nucleotide sequence encoding plasminogen, microplasminogen, and a fragment thereof. Including methods for expressing plasminogen, microplasminogen, and fragments thereof, these nucleotide sequences are modified to increase their expression in duckweed. |
