titleOfInvention Substrate adapter for use in mass spectrometry
abstract Disclosed herein is an apparatus for holding a substrate having one or more samples in a position to ionize the sample with a light energy source. The apparatus includes a receiving plate having a receiving surface, a back surface, and an edge defining an outline. One or more receiving lips protrude from the receiving surface. The receiving surface receives the back side of the substrate having at least one edge received by the receiving lip for aligning the substrate for ionization of the sample. The apparatus further comprises at least one substrate clip comprising front and back fingers for holding and aligning the substrate. The front fingers extend across the thickness of the receiving plate and the substrate to engage the front edge of the substrate and hold the substrate in place. The back finger engages the back surface of the receiving plate. The receiving plate cooperates with the space in the matrix assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometer to hold the sample in a position for ionization.
