abstract | Disclosed is a composition of a salted-out chitosan polymer containing a mixture of certain salting-out salts and methods for making and using the same. Chitosan polymer preparations made by these methods are substantially free of chitosanase, undesirable salts and excess acid and retain their physiological as well as biological and physicochemical properties. The chitosan preparation of the present invention is useful for the preparation of biologically active chitosan in the form of a drug or food supplement. Many of these preparations are readily soluble in an aqueous acidic environment such as the stomach. |
