The present application relates to a method of making a comb polymer comprising: (a) (i) a linear, branched or star-shaped, substituted or unsubstituted, olefinically unsaturated moiety monomer, Preparing a plurality of monomers wherein the olefinically unsaturated moiety can undergo addition polymerization; (ii) an initiator compound comprising a bond that can be equally cleavable; and (iii) a catalyst capable of catalyzing the polymerization of the monomer. And (b) causing the catalyst to catalyze the polymerization of the plurality of monomers in combination with the initiator. Catalysts and polymers obtained by the process are also provided. Comb polymers that are preferably capable of binding proteins and comb polymers that can be produced from monomers that are alkoxy polyethers, such as poly (alkylene glycol) or polytetrahydrofuran. |
