titleOfInvention | Apparatus or method for detecting one or more photons from the interaction of one or more photons with a probe photon in a matter system |
abstract | A device capable of efficiently detecting a single photon signal comprises a matter system (112), a beam source of first and second beams (114 and 610), and a measurement system (420). The matter system (112) has a first energy level and a second energy level such that the signal photon couples to a transition between the first energy level and the second energy level. The first beam includes photons that couple to the transition between the second energy level and the third energy level of the matter system (112), and the second beam is the second number of the matter system (112). Photons that couple to the transition between the third energy level and the fourth energy level. The measurement system (420) measures changes in the first beam or the second beam and detects the absence, presence or number of photons in the signal. |
