Disclosed is a method for recovering a phytolipid composition from a vegetable oil byproduct. The resulting phytripide composition contains squalene, phytosterols, mixed tocopherols and tocotrienols, and vegetable waxes and is useful as an emollient. The phytochemical composition can be applied directly to the skin to provide emollient properties. Alternatively, the phytolipid composition can be formulated into various aqueous or anhydrous cosmetic compositions such as creams, lotions, gels, ointments, lip balms, sticks or pencils for the treatment of skin and lips. The phytolipid composition can also be incorporated into foods, beverages and dietary supplements to provide health benefits. |
