Catalytic reaction of disproportionation of superoxide radicals and anions by osmium-containing compounds reduces harmful inflammatory responses to implants or grafts or after trauma or infection. Also disclosed are treatments of diseases caused by superoxide dismutase deficiency or mutation with an osmium-containing compound that disproportionates the superoxide radical anion or an N-oxide polymer that catalyzes the decay of the carbonate radical anion. |
