abstract | A direct liquid fuel cell membrane having high alcohol impermeability and moderate proton conductivity is obtained. In the production of a diaphragm for a direct liquid fuel cell, a) one polymerizable group, at least one alkyl group having 2 or more carbon atoms, and at least one hydrogen atom are bonded to an aromatic ring. The polymerizable composition comprising at least an aromatic polymerizable monomer, b) a crosslinkable polymerizable monomer, and c) a polymerization initiator is brought into contact with the porous film to make the polymerizable composition porous. After filling the voids of the porous membrane, the polymerizable composition is polymerized and cured, and then a cation exchange group is introduced into the aromatic ring derived from the aromatic polymerizable monomer.
