abstract Provided is a method for efficiently converting linoleic acid to γ-linolenic acid (GLA) to produce edible GLA in large quantities. A gene having a specific nucleotide sequence encoding an enzyme that converts linoleic acid into GLA, Δ6-desaturase, is incorporated into a vector together with a specific promoter, and is introduced into a herbaceous plant cell to be functional. A method for producing a transgenic plant that efficiently produces GLA from linoleic acid by expressing a Δ6-desaturase, and the plant body. [Selection figure] None
