A method for producing dichloropropanol from glycerol is provided. A process for producing dichloropropanol in which glycerol is subjected to a reaction with a chlorinating agent, said reaction being carried out in a liquid reaction medium in the presence of a catalyst based on a carboxylic acid or a carboxylic acid derivative. The production method, wherein the catalyst concentration in the liquid medium expressed by the number of moles of acid and acid derivative per kg of the liquid medium is 0.1 mol / kg or more and 10 mol / kg or less.
