abstract Image data is efficiently compressed without degrading image quality. An image processing apparatus includes a timing controller 2 and a source driver 3. The source driver 3 includes an RGB data receiving circuit 5, a YCC conversion circuit 6, a BTC encoding circuit 7, a frame memory 8, It has a BTC decoding circuit 9, an RGB conversion circuit 10, and an LCD drive circuit 11. Since the image data is encoded by selecting either the 2-level BTC algorithm or the 3-level algorithm according to the amount of activity in the pixel block, the image data can be efficiently compressed without degrading the image quality.
