abstract |
A gelatin-like protein with enhanced cell binding properties is provided. An RGD-enriched gelatin having an even distribution of RGD (arginine-glycine-aspartic acid) sequences compared to natural gelatin and having a minimal level of RGD sequences. Specifically, if the ratio of RGD sequence to the total number of amino acids is at least 0.4 and the RGD-enriched gelatin contains 350 or more amino acids, each stretch of 350 amino acids contains at least one RGD motif. The RGD-enriched gelatin is suitable for coating a cell culture support for growing anchor-dependent cells and is used as a component of medical applications, particularly coatings for implants or transplant materials and drug delivery systems.
