Regeneration of more kinetic energy of a vehicle as electric power and maintaining the stability of the vehicle. When braking while traveling at a relatively high vehicle speed, the engine is stopped when the engine is being operated, and the crankshaft cannot be rotated by a clutch C1 attached to the crankshaft. The motors MG1 and MG2 are regeneratively controlled and the hydraulic brake is operated based on the load distribution of the front and rear wheels during traveling. Thereby, not only the motor MG2 but also the motor MG1 can generate large regenerative power in a state in which the stability of the vehicle is ensured, and more of the kinetic energy of the vehicle can be regenerated as electric power.
