[PROBLEMS] To reduce recording and playback by reducing track deviation (off-track) during running despite a narrow track, with little dimensional change in the width direction during storage under high temperature and humidity conditions, and storage in a high temperature environment. Provided is a magnetic tape having high recording density with excellent output and high reliability. On one surface of a nonmagnetic support, a substantially nonmagnetic nonmagnetic layer containing a nonmagnetic powder and a binder and a magnetic layer in which a ferromagnetic powder is dispersed in a binder are arranged in this order. The temperature expansion coefficient in the width direction is 0 to 10 × 10 −6 / ° C., and the humidity expansion coefficient in the width direction is 0 to 7 × 10 −6 /% RH. When a tensile stress of 1 N is applied in the longitudinal direction of the magnetic tape at 60 ° C. for 50 hours, the amount of dimensional deformation in the width direction of the magnetic tape is 0.01% or more and 0.06% or less.
