abstract Provided is an algorithm capable of stably recognizing a lane mark composed of a white line or a roadside without distinguishing between lane mark types. An image input process for inputting an image including a lane mark, an edge extraction process for extracting a luminance change portion in the input image input in the image input process, and an edge point extracted in the edge extraction process. In the lane mark recognition method including the lane mark position estimation step for estimating the lane mark position, the edge extraction step includes means for calculating the direction angle of each edge, and the lane mark position estimation step is extracted by the edge extraction step. Means for extracting an edge point having an angle from the edge point toward the vanishing point of the road is provided. [Effect] Since it is possible to recognize stably without distinguishing by type of lane mark, it is not necessary to switch the algorithm, and it is possible to deal with an unknown lane mark shape.
