To realize a thermoplastic resin composition such as an acrylic resin having a low birefringence and a small amount of foreign matter, and a method for producing the same. A method for producing a thermoplastic resin composition according to the present invention is a method in which a thermoplastic resin having a main chain made of an aliphatic compound is sheared using an extruder 2 equipped with a polymer filter 4 having a filtration accuracy of 10 μm or less.
