abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress light leakage of a polarizing plate and improve the front contrast of a liquid crystal display device for a cellulose ester film that can be used for a liquid crystal display device (LCD), particularly a VA type (vertical alignment mode) liquid crystal display device. A cellulose ester film as a retardation film and a method for producing the same are provided. A method for producing a cellulose ester film in which a film edge is gripped by a clip in a film stretching process and stretched, held and relaxed in the width direction while being continuously conveyed, and then wound up in the film stretching process. The product of film stretching speed: X (m / min) and stretching ratio: Y (%) is the following formula (1) 45 ≦ X × Y ≦ 450 (1) Here, the stretching speed: X stretches the film under conditions that satisfy a value obtained by dividing the increment (m) by stretching by the time (min) required for stretching.
