titleOfInvention Liquid crystal display
abstract An object of the present invention is to perform an optimal video expression according to a change in a feature amount of a video signal without reducing display quality, and to realize a reduction in power consumption. For example, APL is used as a video feature amount, and when the feature amount is larger than a first predetermined value p1, the light emission luminance of the light source is reduced as the feature amount increases. In a region where the feature amount is smaller than the predetermined value p1, the light emission luminance of the light source is decreased as the feature amount is decreased. Further, the light emission luminance of the light source is maximized when the feature amount is a predetermined value p1. Further, when the feature amount is larger than the second predetermined value p2, the ratio of decreasing the light emission luminance of the light source is increased as the feature amount is increased. Furthermore, the control characteristic of the light emission luminance according to the feature amount is changed according to the light control mode set by the user or according to the brightness around the apparatus.
