PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricating oil additive having excellent demulsibility. A lubricating oil additive comprising a polymer (A) in which (meth) acrylic acid alkyl ester (a) having 10 to 36 carbon atoms in an alkyl group among all constituent monomers is 45% by weight or more. And, it is a lubricating oil additive having a sulfur atom content in the (meth) acrylic acid alkyl ester (a) of 50 ppm or less. The alkyl (meth) acrylate (a) is preferably obtained by reacting an alkanol having 10 to 36 carbon atoms with (meth) acrylic acid or a lower alkyl ester thereof in the presence of the solid acid catalyst (α).
