A battery with improved safety, which can short-circuit between electrodes more reliably when being crushed by an external force. A flat battery element 20 having a winding structure in which a positive electrode 21 and a negative electrode 22 are stacked via a separator 23 and wound in a spiral shape is housed inside a hollow rectangular parallelepiped battery can 11. . A conductive short-circuit member 30 is provided in a gap between the battery element 20 and the battery can 11. When the battery can 11 is deformed by being crushed by an external force, the cut 31 bites into the battery element 20 and punctures the positive electrode 21 and the negative electrode 22 with certainty.
