abstract An object of the present invention is to provide a lactic acid bacterium that has a high cholesterol-adsorbing ability and bile acid-adsorbing ability in a dead bacteria state, and can exhibit an excellent blood cholesterol-reducing effect. [ MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] Among lactic acid bacteria belonging to any one of Lactobacillus fermentum , Lactobacillus plantarum , and Lactobacillus paracasei , 60 mg per 1 mg of dry cells of dead bacteria. Lactic acid bacteria exhibiting a cholesterol adsorption amount of 1.2 μg or more in a volume% ethanol solution and a bile acid adsorption amount of 33 nmol or more in a phosphate buffer (pH 6.8) are employed.
