A method and apparatus for manufacturing a continuous cathode collector for use in lithium / thionyl chloride and lithium / sulfuryl chloride batteries. A preferred conductive material is acetylene black mixed with a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) binder, dried in powder form. The collector substrate 14 is a mesh or other microporous nickel or stainless steel foil. By adjusting the center position of the collector base material 14, the filling amount of the conductive mixture on the front and back surfaces of the base material is controlled. Thereafter, the dried powdered conductive mixture is continuously fed to the calendar hopper 28 and secured to the perforations of the collector substrate 14 to form the conductive structure 102 before being cut to the appropriate size.
